Virtually everyone thinks they are free but in reality they are prisoners of their habits. 30% of Americans are obese. Almost all know why they are overweight: eating too much sugar, drinking too much soda, eating too many grains: pasta, bread, etc., but they cannot change their habits. I asked my doctor recently, why can't you help people lose weight. She said, "They are addicted and I am unable to help them break there habit."
According to the CDC 15.1% of U.S. adults (16.7% of men and 13.6% of women) smoke. We know that smoking is potentially harmful but still people smoke. When younger, I smoked three packs of Lucky Strikes a day. I probably only enjoyed very few after the cup of coffee but it took me many years to finally stop.
One in eight American adults, or 12.7 percent of the U.S. population, now meets diagnostic criteria for alcohol use disorder. Obviously, they know they are addicted but unable to help themselves.
About 38% of adults in 2017 battled an illicit drug use disorder.
These are some of the very bad habits but if you look at yourself, you can find many other habits that keep you from living a marvelous one.
What to do?
First pick an amazing new Goal to stretch your mechanism to give you a great future. Write down all of your restraining habits with your desire to change. Then write down as many tasks and new routines to lead you to a new life. Pick one or more of those tasks and routines and put them on your daily diary, do them and also find a coach to support you. Everyone needs a coach. Find one and also be a coach for someone else.
